discount commodities broker - According to Datamonitor, service providers in the corporate arena would do well to focus on Web hosting, Internet telephony and Internet Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), the areas of greatest revenue growth. The general area of security, consultancy and integration will experience ongoing corporate demand. In the consumer market, online shopping will be a key revenue growth area for ISPs and OSPs. There will be an increasing number of transactional Web sites as retailers realise the potential of electronic commerce, and consumers are encouraged to take part as the cost of hardware, access and telecom charges decreases. Consumer access revenues will be boosted by the uptake of Internet telephony in 1998, which will account for almost 5% of consumer access service revenues in 2002. According to Datamonitor, the pure access share of total revenues will shrink from over 80% to less than 45% in 2002. Such access services currently account for over 80% of total revenues but non-access revenues are set to increase in the represent less than 45% of total Internet services market revenues.
"Business trade will be the engine of Internet growth in Europe, due to its focus on regional and international markets, the start of transactions in euros, and higher Net penetration in the workplace," said Joe Sawyer, analyst in Forrester's European New Media Strategies group and author of the report.
